Over the Border has bright future Trainer Rebecca Maker, who has one of the hottest stables going at Fair Grounds now, sent out the good-looking 3-year-old filly Over the Border to win Sunday's sixth race. She beat some talented fillies, including first-time starters from trainers Howard, Stewart, and Steve Asmussen. Corey Lanerie had Over the Border well-placed from her inside post, then moved her between horses through the stretch to win by 2 1/4 lengths, getting the six furlongs in 1:11.50. "She was very impressive," said Maker. "I ran her at six furlongs because I knew she had enough speed, but I think she's going to be a two-turn filly. She's very intelligent, and she's done everything we've asked of her. She acts like an older horse." Maker has no particular spot in mind for Over the Border, a daughter of Wagon Limit, but clearly has high hopes for her future. "We're going to wait and see how she comes back after that race before we make any plans with her," said Maker. "She's a nice filly, but she still needs to develop."
