COMMON QUESTIONS

Thank you for taking a look at my most commonly asked questions page. I felt it was necessary to make available basic answers to the questions so many of you ask. Whether you are trying to break into the business or already own race horses, I felt this may help fill in some information on how I run my racing stable. At the end of this page, feel free to ask any of your own questions that you may have. Just click on the link below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks again for your interest.

Sincerely,
Becky

Q: If I wanted to get into the business of horse racing and own my own race horse, how do I go about that?

A: The best way would be to contact me either in person, phone or email me and explain to me what you are wanting to spend and what kind of horse you would like to buy. From there, I can discuss with you the options that may best suit you.

Q: Would you know anyone or have other clients, looking for partnerships for purchasing a race horse or horses?

A: Yes, I train for a few clients that look for people interested in investing into partnerships with owning race horses. Here are some links of some of my current clients that may interest you (selected examples, arranged alphabetically):
www.daretodreamstable.com
www.dogwoodstable.com
www.westpointtb.com

Q: Do you take part in any sales events such as Saratoga, Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton, Ocala Breeders Sales, etc.?

A: Yes, I attend these sales throughout the year. I have purchased horses for my owners at both yearling and 2yr old in training sales.

Q: If I already own a horse, when do I know my horse is ready for the racetrack and be under your care?

A: Your horse should already have a decent foundation of galloping and be ready to start their workout program. You may contact me by phone or email and I will be glad to discuss this with you as all cases are different.

Q: Do you have a preference in a particular kind of horse to train, such as colts fillies, sprinters or distance, turf or dirt?

A: I have no preference. I have had success training every kind of horse from sprinters on the dirt to long distance races on the turf. I train each horse accordingly to their needs.

Q: How long would I expect my horse to be in training before it would be able to race?

A: I treat all horses as individuals. I like to let them tell me physically and mentally with their training when they're are close to running at their best potential.

Q: What would it cost me to have a horse in training with you?

A: My charge is $80 per day.

Q: What would that include?

A: Highest quality care, with grooming, bedding, feed, hay, vitamins and training of their horse.

Q: What are some other cost an owner of a horse might I expect at the racetrack?

A: There is blacksmith, dentist, chiropractic, or any other special treatments, supplements, or medications to help that individual horse's needs. Any special treatments will be discussed with you prior to be agreed upon. These expenses will come to you in a detailed invoice from Rebecca Maker Racing Stable. Blacksmith care is essential however and you can expect it to cost approximately $140 per month. Veterinary work will be billed to you separately and can cost at on average $400 - $500 per month. Some horses needing special medical attention may cost more, so cost will vary.

Q: What percentage of the earnings of my horse would I expect to pay to Maker Stable?

A: 12% win (2% of which goes to the stable employees) 10% 2nd. 10% 3rd. Purses over $125,000, 12% win 10% 2nd through 5th place.

Q: Will I get a detailed invoice from the Rebecca Maker Racing Stable once a month?

A: Yes

Q: What is the Maker Stable's payment policy?

A: Payment due upon receiving invoice.

Q: What is the best way for me to follow the progress of my horse's training?

A: You may phone me best after training hours (which is approximately 10 a.m.), 7 days a week. I would be glad to discuss your horse's progress. I will be phoning you concerning up coming events such as important workouts or any races that would be considered for your horse. I also can communicate to you by email.

Q: Would I be able to come see my horse(s) train in the morning and, can I come see my horse(s) at the barn?

A: Yes, phone me and I would be glad to arrange the time and day.

Q: How do you decide what jockeys to use for the races?

A: I prefer using jockeys that have the confidence in me and our horse. I value a jockey that will listen and respect any instructions that I may have that is in our best interest with our horse.

Q: Should my horse be injured or sick, what resources and services would you offer or be at hand?

A: We have the best veterinarians on call at all times.

Q: If my horse needed some time to rest at a farm or clinic, would it still be considered under your care?

A: If your horse was leave my barn under temporary circumstances, I would be in close contact concerning any therapy or treatments used for your horse. I would assure that when the horse shall return into my barn, they would resume there training and racing schedule to their best capabilities with minimum time lost.

Q: Would I still pay the Maker Stable day rate if my horse was to be temporarily out of her possession such as a clinic or farm?

A: No, once your horse leaves my barn even under temporary circumstances, the day rate stops at that time. Farms and clinics day rates will start and vary in prices usually expect rates less then racetrack cost. You will be billed by them separately.
