FINALLY A VICTORY
By Staff writer Bob Fortus
Some horses become known as career maidens, horses who might run second or third but seemingly don't want to win.
Even though Biorhythm lost his first 11 starts -- with three second places and three thirds -- he didn't lose his will to win, trainer Becky Maker said. Running in a turf sprint last Sunday in his 12th start, Biorhythm earned his first victory.
"He always gave you hope," Maker said. "He was always close enough that one day he'd get the job done. He always tried. It was just a matter of getting the right trip for him. He never gave me the feeling that he was one that would give up on you."
Maker, who had been an assistant for Stewart and Pletcher, started on her own last fall at Keeneland. She won with three of her first 17 starts at this meeting.
